Había asaltado a alguien por
Hi guys
Help me understand this sentence from a story by G.G. Márquez I´m reading : El recelo de que María pudiera irse otra vez había asaltado a Saturno por Pascua Florida en Cadaqués, adonde Rosa Regas los había invitado a navegar a vela. The suspicion that María could have walked away again... ... ..., where Rosa Regas had invited them to (sail?). Saturno is one of the characters. Pascua Florida would be a Spanish festive day? I can´t make much of it  |
Pascua Florida is Easter. Asaltar is to assault or attack. The best English translation for being asaltado by an idea, a sensation, etc. (which I think GGM uses quite a lot) is probably "struck", optionally with a modifier.

On second thoughts, "por" implies a continuity which doesn't fit "struck".
The suspicion that María could leave again had gnawed at Saturno over Easter in Cadaqués, where Rosa Regas had invited them to go sailing. |
Thanks. You´ve been of great help.
