Se usa cuando queremos que alguien cambie de actitud, o simplemente para decirlos que no han echo algo bien.
Ej.
EL jefe me llamó al orden, por decir a los empleados que podían llegar 10 minutos tarde.

realmente es cuando alguien se sale de lo establecido, como en los militares, cuando alguien se sale de la fila es "llamado al orden"

I misunderstood. The por decir thus means because I said to the staff, not the boss.

Does this construction always refer to the last person mentioned? EL jefe me llamó.... thus por decir refers to me? :thinking:

I think a wake-up call might be a good translation for this term.

Y cómo podríamos traducir:
Me han llamado al orden por comunicar a los demás una subida de salario, sin permiso.

I have been told off for announcing a pay increase to the others without permission.

sometimes "to straighten someone out" will work.

ex: "i was out of line, and the boss straightened me out."
