jefe

Can u use jefe for saying dad and mom?

sosia October 03, 2007 07:19 AM

yes for dad, for mom it's jefa, but it's vulgar.
You can say "Hey, jefe, dame dinero para salir"
but it's like "Hey you boss, gimme some bucks (for going out)" to your father.

dad=supervisor=boss
Only for teenager who are at an awkward age
Saludos :D

Jefe/Jefa

;)Hey WMX.....

Jefe...... I wouldn't say it is vulgar. It is widely used in the US by Mexican-Americans and I don't think they use it to be disrespectful. It is just "another one of those things" that are spoken but misunderstood by many.

And as Sosia says.....they also use Jefa for Mom.

sosia October 03, 2007 10:48 AM

Elaina's right.
But here in Spain, it's not so wide used.
Saludos :D

In México is used apropriate in the work with your immediatily superiority.
En méxico es apropiado cuando te refieres a tu inmediato superior en el trabajo :)

OK I just wanted to know I wasn't hearing wrong.

So is saying jefe vulgar or is it informal? 'Cause there's a lot of difference between the two.

sosia October 07, 2007 03:24 AM

In Spain, for dad and mom it doesn't sound very good. Perhaps for an older/experienced person, wich you know (not an stranger)
But as Elaina says, there (in the US) it's much more common. She must says if it's informal.

saludos :D

Hola!!

Ya estoy de regreso.....

JEFE - JEFA

Se usa muy informalmente.....claro que hay ese uso para indicar Boss = Jefe/Jefa pero creo que preguntabas especificamente hacia los padres. Si se usa, no es vulgar y tampoco es malo.

Ciao

In South America nobody use "jefe" or "jefa" instead of father and mother.
I am not sure about Central America, but I think it is common only in Mexico.

Rusty November 05, 2007 10:14 PM

I never heard these words used in Central America for dad and mom.

Elaina November 06, 2007 02:36 PM

Yo solo se que los Mexico-Americanos aqui en los U.S. usan esa expresion. Claro, no todos pero si muy comun.

Elaina:)

Tomisimo November 07, 2007 12:20 PM

Yes, it is used commonly in Mexico.
