Creo que simplemente lo podrías traducir como "an unhappy couple" o "an unhappy marriage". La traducción literal de amargado "bitter" no funcionaría bien en este contexto. :)

For me unhappy marriage is the best translation and in Spanish I would probably say un matrimonio desavenido instead of amargado.
