The word Abusado- what does it really mean?

The word Abusado- what does it really mean?
 

Ok, so I overheard a couple of people talking and they used the word abusado. I don't remember all the context of what they were saying, but I'm certain they were not say the person was "abused". they were saying someone was abusado, but it was like a positive quality, but I don't know really what they were talking about. Can anyone help me out?

In the dictionary here on Tomísimo, if the word was used as a positive quality (an adjective), it could have meant that the person was 'able to take care of himself' or that he was 'street-wise'. There are other meanings, but these sound like positive qualities.

Thanks Rusty, I should have looked it up there first lol. I suppose that's what they were talking about. Anyone else have an opinion?

ABUSADO......

It can mean abused BUT if it was used for something positive and if they were referring to a person....they were saying something like:

Rusty es muy abusado....... which means..... Rusty is quite smart. Now they might not be saying "book smart" only, they're saying "street and book smart".

Sometimes people use the word abusado to say Watch it! For example:

You may be crossing the street and a car is coming....in English you would say "Watch it!" In Spanish it would be "¡Abusado!"

As you can see it is quite versatile and it is one of those words....

As Elaina says, pónte abusuado is very versatile. Here's a few possible meanings:

don't let yourself get taken advantage of
don't let anyone rip you off
don't let anyone overcharge you
don't let anyone rob you
be careful
watch out for yourself
pay attention to what's going on

Does está abusado mean abused and es abusado mean streetwise?

For me "abusado" hat only negative atributes, but RAE says:

abusado, da.

(De aguzado). Comes from "sharp"

IN Guatemala, Honduras and México, sharp & sharp-witted, discerning, wittined

I didn't know this local meaning. I use it only negative.
