I think that the first time I meet somebody, I use "meet", but since then on I must use "know". I mean, I've just met Paul / I knew Paul last year. Am I wrong? :thinking:

"I met Paul last year" está bien; podría ser por primera vez o "Quedé con Paul el año pasado". "I got to know Paul last year" también está bien; eso es conocer en el sentido de llegar a conocer. "I knew Paul last year" me suena mal; lo podría interpretar como "El año pasado conocía a Paul, pero ahora es una persona distinta y ya no le conozco", pero eso no es algo que se dice con frecuencia.

Yes and no. I always use meet = encontrar <> conocer

Me lo encontré/lo conocí por primera vez = I met him for first time...

Lo encontré/conocí en el museo = I met him at the museum.

I knew him from the museum = Lo conocí en el museo:good:

I knew him at the museum :bad:

I met him at the museum:good:

Yes you are right, but it is advisable to be less specific about the the time you knew Paul.
Example. I met Paul last year. I knew him then.

If you wish to be more specific about the time in the past you knew him, it would be better to say this. We saw each other a lot last year.

I can't see the difference between "from the museum" and "at the museum". ¿Lo conozco (know) del museo, de verlo por allí, por ejemplo? / ¿Lo conocí (met) en el museo una tarde que me lo presentó mi vecino? :thinking:

And what about "I know him since last year"?

Not it's more correct you use the word meet or met in pass, you only use the word know when you are almost sure that of something.

I know about the company.
That it's different if you say I met that company, this last word is incorrect.:)

with since, you always need the perfect tense. :)

@Irma: "At the museum" es en el lugar físico. "From the museum" es como si la persona hubiera sido parte del museo (alguien del personal, por ejemplo).

"...at the museum.", the museum was where you met him.

"...from the museum." , you know him through visiting/working at the museum.

I know him from the museum - Lo conozco del museo, porque sé que trabaja allí, porque lo he visto con su uniforme.)

I met him at the museum - Lo conocí en el museo.

Yes once I knew you and today I don't know much about you:confused:

I meant that you "meet" somebody once, conoces a alguien una vez, te lo presentan o lo conoces casualmente (meet también significa reunirse o encontrarse con alguien). Pero cuando ya lo has conocido la primera vez, dices "know": I know him very well, lo conozco muy bien. :)
