Sobran dos
como se diría sobran dos, I saw sthg like 2 too many, is that correct, can any provide some examples?
|
I would say two extra. Example I have two extra tickets for tonight's show. Would you like them?
I packed two too many shirts for the trip, and I never wore them. |

I will try to do my own translation. There're two extra things in the store car. I hope that my instance can help you.:) Have a good day.:) |
"Two too many" está bien. En ciertos contextos podría ser "two left over", "two spare", "two surplus".
Would someone mind using "sobran dos" in a sentence for me? I'm having a difficult time imagining it.....
|
If you have three of something, and you only need one, you would say, "me sobran dos."
|
So the idea of "need" is in there, too?
"I need two somethings." = "Me sobran dos algos." ? |
No, Lou Ann. "Sobrar" is not "necesitar", but the contrary. When something "sobra", you have it in excess.
Btw, "dos algos" is too strange for a Spanish expression. "Algo" doesn't change. If you use "cosas", it will be much better. Hay tres niños y cuatro sombreros. Sobra un sombrero. There are three children and four hats. There is one extra hat. Serví doce piezas de pollo, pero sobran tres en el sartén. I served twelve pieces of chicken, but three remain in the pan. No sé qué hacer con la pizza que sobró. I don't know what to do with the left overs of pizza. Compré dos boletos para el concierto, pero mi esposo ya no va a ir. Me sobra un boleto. I bought two tickets for the concert, but my husband is not going anymore. I have an extra ticket. |
Hi Lou Ann - It will perhaps make more sense if you think of "sobrar"
as related to "sobre" (over, above). Like "Lo que sobra es para tí." "Whatever is over and above the price is for you." (Keep the change.) |
Thanks, Malila & Hermit!! :) That makes perfect sense now...
