Screech
I understand screech as "a harsh, shrill cry or sound: an owl's screech; the screech of brakes."
In the following context I could translate it as "chillido" or "chirrido", even "aullido". Context, the steady, uninterrupted screech of speed and action and so forth, el chillido/aullido ininterrumpido y constante de la velocidad y la acción y demás, Any other suggestions in Spanish? What would be best? |
I can't suggest anything, but for somebody asking what it means, screech is a very good example of onomatopoeia.

Thank you Perikles. You're right! :)
Any Spaniard coming up the plate to suggest something onomatopoeic and "castizo" [pure Castilian/Spanish]? |
Casi siempre, lo primero que me viene a la cabeza con "screech" es "chirrido", pero con frecuencia también uso "rechinido".

Vaya, "rechinido" o "rechino" o "rechinamiento". Esa es nueva para mí, (la de "rechinido) pero me da cierta inspiración. Quizá me quede con lo de "chirrido", pero en el texto inglés, aparte del ruido me da una sensación de: "bustling and vibrant activity" with the noise, in the context the sentence is... is not so much the noise of a a car's brakes, but more like a factory "clinging and clanging" non stop... :hmm:Maybe I go with... el estrepitoso chirrido ininterrumpido y constante de la velocidad y la acción y demás. Yup! :) Thank you guys... thank you for your inspiration! :applause:
