Having a hard time translating these sentences....

Having a hard time translating these sentences....

Sentence #1- I can pay for them.
Sentence # 2- I can buy them.

I came up with Puedo pagar ellos and Puedo comprar los.

Thanks in advance!

1) Puedo pagarlos.
2) Puedo comprarlos.

It's easy! :)

También podrías decir:
1) Puedo pagar por ellos. (But it is less common and less natural than Irmamar's simple translation, "Puedo pagarlos")
A variation could be, "Puedo permitírmelos" (I can afford them...) :)

Thank you all so much! I'm using Pimsleur's audio course and although it helps with vocabulary and speaking....it leaves a bit to be desired for writing ability. :-)

You're welcome!
"Todo se andará" (literally, "we will walk all [the paths]" equivalent to, all in good time.) (As you get to practice and practice, you'll get better.) :)

Unless you're inviting and you say "Puedo pagar por ellos".

Right?

JPablo May 26, 2010 07:27 AM

Right, Chileno. You could say that.
If I was the one inviting, ie., it's my treat, it's on me, I'm paying... I would most likely say "Pago yo" "Yo pago las cervezas" "Yo pago la ronda" or "Invito yo".
"Puedo pagar por ellos" sounds to me more like someone challenging your ability to pay, and you say, something like "los compro, porque puedo pagar por ellos"... Yes, of course, everything could go, depending on the contexts... :)
N.B.: the author of this post declines and/or relinquish any responsibility or duty to pay any treat, nor paying anything... whereas his statements are only linguistic examples, devoid of any intention to pay... specially on a long web/cybernetic distance... ... (This is somewhat a "legal disclaimer"... Maybe I need some legal and/or linguistic advice to fix my HEnglish.) :whistling:

Yes you're right.
I can't write whole and are because the subject is only one.

It's completely correct.

Chilene.
I thank you the support.
