can anybody give a more informal conjunction meaning the same?

It is a complex subordinator and the Oxford dictionary gives it as in so far as, although others give insofar as and in-so-far as. Anyway, it normally means to the extent that, and can often be substituted by so far as, though or since, depending on context.
