Sapeta
My wife & I just received a baby shower invitation from a neighbor that said "Estas invitada a un baby shower de sapetas para Jaclyn Ramirez."
Can anyone help translate the word "sapeta?" Is it an alternate spelling for zapata? Sapetas is printed in ALL CAPS on the flyer. Could it be the family's name? We're new to this barrio in Tucson, AZ and are excited by the opportunity to meet some neighbors. Being close to the border, there are folks from all over Mexico, but primarily Sonora, Chihuahua & Sinaloa. Thanks for your help! |
Well, hopefully someone from Mexico will know better and will let us know. What I found searching in the net is that "sapetas" are "white cotton wrap around skirts", I guess for the baby, so I would think it is some kind of diapers or nappies... (Just my guess... as it does not appear in my dictionaries...) :)
Welcome to the forums! (By the way). I hope you enjoy learning with us. (I also found the following, en la sierra los tarahumara visten sapetas como las llaman ellos son unos calzones grandes que solamente cubren la parte intima del hombre.) (However, the "diapers" sense seems to be what applies here.) |
Hey! Welcome to the Forums.....
Sapetas......diapers I don't know the origin of the word or if maybe it is a regional word for the southwest but that is what it means. |
No idea of what "sapeta" is, but according to Google, it seems to be some kind of word for "compresas" (like feminine pads)... in the case of a baby shower, Elaina's translation seems to be the right one.
