Silly contestant

What exactly is a "silly contestant"?

One participant in a reality show claimed to be "the silly contestant", but he's not silly at all.

I've not much of an idea here, but perhaps he means 'silly' in the sense that it is obvious he stands no chance of winning. In which case it is a silly thing for him to do, even when he as a person is not intrinsically 'silly', if you see what I mean.

(I forgot to tell it is an American show)

Thank you, Perikles. That looks like he being a contestant "de relleno" -one who is to complete a certain total number, but not a serious candidate-. I suspect it might be a contestant who can win for a lucky chain of events, what we call here "ganar por carambola".

By the way, later in that episode, the contestant was sent home.
