Another way to say vera is orilla. This means the bank, or the side, of a river, etc. It denotes the bounds or the edge of something instead of which surface. Lado is used to denote that.

safacón means trash can or waste basket. I think it is a peculiarly Puerto Rican word. I've heard it is derived from the English "safety can," which was stenciled on trash cans sent in by the U.S. when they, ahem, "liberated" the island.
