"tanto"

Folks,

In the following sentence, is the word "tanto" a noun or adverb.?

"No es tanto como pensabamos."

I think that it is a noun.

In the following example, it seems to be na adjective:

"No tomo tanta leche como té."

All comments are welcome.

It could be either a pronoun or an adverb.
The noun means 'point', like a tally used in games.
As a pronoun, and as an adverb, it means 'so much'.

... pensábamos.

In the second case, it is an adjective. Again, it means 'so much'.
