Subjunctive + lo que
Es importante que todos, especialmente aquellos en los países más ricos, reconozcan el problema y hagan lo que puedan para ayudar.
Is ‘pueden’ also correct here? Many thanks in advance.

No. I'm not sure about how to explain this, but the use of the subjunctive implies that they must do what they are able to do now, but also what they find out they can do in the future, so "pueden" is not the right conjugation to use.
