Solutions and pH Values

Check please...and the unanswered ones...I am confused...please give help. I am not asking you to answer just explain what they mean.. :P

1. Substance A and substance B are poured into a beaker. They mix together but do not chemically combine. The result is called a(n) physical change.

2. When substance R is placed in water, hydroxide (OH) ions are released into solution. Substance R must be a(n) base.

3. When substance E is placed in substance F, substance E breaks into small pieces that neither dissolve nor settle to the bottom of the container. This mixture is called a(n) suspension.

4. Substance X has a pH value of 12. What does that tell you about X? It is a base, and has 11 more OH- than H+.????

Substance Y has a pH value of 1. What do you know about Y? It is an acid, and has 10 less H+ than OH-???

If X and Y are mixed, they undergo a neutralization reaction. Explain what happens.

5. When substance C is placed in substance D, it dissolves and become uniformly spread throughout substance D. This mixture is
called a(n) solution.
Substance C is the solute.
Substance D is the solvent.

6. When substance Q is placed in water, it releases hydrogen ions into solution. Substance Q must be a(n) acid.

For #4, the 3rd question, I will answer it as "it becomes more neutral", but is that a good explanation? Probably not :P
