What do you think? Too many "dates"?

Why not:
The 4th of July the United States celebrated his independence.That is to remember the date on which this document was accepted by the Continental Congress.

That sounds a bit stuffy.... How about: United States' independence is celebrated on the 4th of July to remember that this was the date on which (or when) this document was accepted by the Continental Congress.
