Could you provide the English version of what you want the note to say, please?
There are places where the meaning is unclear.

Hi EChilders,

Could you show us the original version? (What you would say in English). In this way, we'll translate properly.

Edit: Crossposted with Rusty.

A pleasure.

Ha, I found my book, Spanish for Educators and it had many of the phrases I needed. So this is what I ended up with...much better I do believe.

Homework is a very important part of your child’s education. It is necessary for your child to do homework every day. Homework is given in order to know whether the students understood the lesson and to help students understand and review what I presented in class. I hope that you can help me and encourage your child to complete the homework every day and turn in the homework.
Helpful hints:
· Establish a regular time for studying and doing homework.
· While your child is studying, the television should be turned off and any other distractions should not be allowed.
· If possible, make sure that your child has a quiet, comfortable, well-lit study area to study and do homework.

Thank you for your help,

There are still some mistakes, mostly typographical. It may be that the typos are a result of transcription. Would you like us to correct them?

Hi again EChilders,

Notice that Rusty's correction does not include "hijo/hija" because it's a stupid "politically correct politeness".

I, maybe for being a Spanish-speaking person and also a writer, tend to make up longer sentences than the ones in English. In addition, so much "hacer la tarea" kills me... By the way, in Spain we use "deberes".

Una pregunta

¿Porque se dice "hubiera explicado" en vez de "he explicado" If it's something that definately happened. ?

Thank you...One more?

Thank you both very much!
And Julvenzor, I agree that hacer la tarea was used way too much, but I don't know enough to change it on my own.

Anyway, if you are up for it, I have one more for you. Tomorrow is parent night for the ELL families and I want to be able to very briefly explain the paperwork that I am giving them. I will give them a copy of a paper that they will be signing, so I want to tell them that they are the same. Then they will receive a blank copy of the same paper, but in Spanish so they can compare it to the English version to see what has been marked for their child. Also a copy of a Power Point which will be gone through in a parent's meeting (with a translator!). They then need to sign my copy and then they can go eat and have seat. So, this is what I have...

Estos son los mismos.
Esta es en español para comparar.
Esta es la presentación de padres.
Necessitas que firmar aquí.
Gracias.
Se puede comer y sentarse allí.

P.S. If it makes a difference, most of the families are from Guatemala.

The important thing is to struggle, little by little. Don't worry about your actual level. Remember a very easy premise, we "natives" don't understand bad translations. Please, show us what you mean in English; thus, we can help you better.

These are the same.
This is in English to compare.
This is the parent's presentation.
You need to sign here.
You can eat and have a seat (pointing) there.

Thanks, it is just frustrating. I can communicate with my students well enough, with single words and short phrases when need be but parents are a whole different story. Being bilingual is not a requirement of my job, but with only two translators available it would sure be helpful.

I meant..
This is in Spanish to compare.

Sorry

Éstos/Éstas son lo mismo.
Esto/Ésta/Éste está en español para compararlo.
Ésta es la presentación para los padres.
Necesita/Necesitan firmar aquí. Gracias.
Puede/Pueden comer y tomar asiento.

"Éstos" or "éstas" depending on if it's masculine or feminine object, I cannot know. The same occurs with "esto", ésta" and "éste".
"Necesita" and "puede" when referring a one person as "you"; "necesitan" y "pueden" when they're two (both of you).

A pleasure.
