People,
In his rendition of the song El Pajarillo, Jose Luis Rodriguez, El Puma, canta una estrofa asi: "Pajarillo, no te olvides de tu promesa llanera, promesa que tú me hiciste debajo de una palmera. Mi cuerpo cerca del mar enteradlo en Venezuela." What does he mean by promesa llanera? Is it something like "The code of the West" or honor among cowboys? You're quite right. It refers to la Región de los Llanos.
These regions characterize by agriculture but mainly by its cattle and the llaneros who tend to it. These tough people formed the cavalry during the Independece Wars. There are cultural values and ethics associated to being a llanero, similar to those of the gauchos
