I believe that the Portuguese use "gosto" to mean "I like, I fancy etc." Much easier than "me gusta"

Discúlpame, pero eso no es gracioso. Y este no es el lugar para hablar de la infidelidad a un contrato de matrimonio. Mejor regresemos al tema.

gracias de nuevo porque realmente esa información me ayuda mucho

Thank heavens for the search function!

I was taught exactly the same - only more that 'gustar' is only used in the third person!

I was beginning to think I must be imagining things on the TV. I keep hearing 'gustamos', so I looked in my 501 Spanish Verbs & that says that it's usually only used in the third person. So of course I got to thinking..............

te gustamos
must mean 'you like us' - confusion solved

Well of course, or even we are pleasing to you, but I find 'interpretation' is usually more useful than 'translation'

Well, for me anyway.

¿Sólo en tercera persona?
Yo les gusto a mis vecinos.
Tú le gustas a tu novio.
Él te gusta.
Nosotros le gustamos a nuestro jefe.
Vosotros le gustáis al profesor.
Ellos me gustan.

- Que aproveche.
- ¿Gustan?

Creo que no.

Perhap gustar is used more often in the 3rd person singular than most verbs because of constructions like

me gustaría que ....
nos gustaría que ....

Es malo que nos enseñaran lo contrario . Pienso que el problema en mi caso fue que leí del libro español que era para los novatos, y dijeron.. (You wont see the other forms of gustar so thats all you´ll need to know (at this moment)
