This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for July 3, 2008

oreja - feminine noun (la) - ear. Look up oreja in the dictionary

Muchos animales son capaces de mover sus orejas hacia la dirección de donde proviene un sonido, pero los humanos no tenemos esa capacidad.
Many animals are able to move their ears toward a sound, but humans do not have that ability.

Please help me. What is the difference between oido and oreja. Oido is the organ and oreja is the outer ear; is that right?

oído = inner ear (the organ), hearing, sense of hearing (audición)
oreja = outer ear (Pabellón auricular in Spanish, Pinna in English)

In México there's a type of bread (pan dulce) called an oreja (not orejón):

We call the thing in the picture palmera over here. Orejón as Jane said is a dry apricot.
