Some English idioms are so well known, that the phrase might omit the last words and people know the meaning anyway.
Sometimes idioms are understood in context, and even native speakers don't know the entire phrase. For example "grasping at straws" (which means to make wild guesses without any real hope of success) comes from the longer expression "A drowning man would even grasp at straws". I was over 40 years old before I heard the whole thing. Last edited by Mozzo; October 02, 2013 at 09:33 PM. |

I'd say that if it's deeper, then it should be in, but I'll let a native English-speaker to say if I'm right.

Ok, thanks @poli. I had the doubt because I was taught that whenever I'm talking about things on internet or a computer I will always have to use "on" but if a native says it, it's ok and thanks to you too @AngelicaDeAlquezar
