"So"

Is there a appropriate/simple equivalent for the English connective 'so' in Spanish which indicates consequence? For example, 'I am a vegetarian so I don't eat meat' or 'it was raining so I stayed indoors'.

@Poli: Yes, that's alright.

So, with this meaning can be "así que", "entonces", "por lo tanto", "por eso", "de manera que" ... it depends on the language register and personal preference.
