question by john is on a distinguished road
Write her name

Hi, my friend's name sounds like Ethie, she is Puerto Rican.
How do i write her name in Spanish?
Is it Edi or Ethie or Ethi?
I asked a friend and he told me there is no "th" sound in Spanish so her name is written Edi.
I'm so confused, I need to practice speaking Spanish.

While it's true that no native Spanish speaker can pronounce the 'th' sound in Ethie (in fact, that consonant is very rare in the world of languages), the Spanish can say the 'th' sound found in the word 'the'. If you spell Ethie as Edi, the 'd' will be pronounced like the 'th' in 'then' and it will as close to the English pronunciation as you can hope for.

You can, of course, leave her name unchanged and pronounce it in English.
You can also choose a name for her that is familiar to Spanish speakers, like Edita, Elena or Elisa.
