Alfajores

Nunca lo he probado yo.

Alfajores are very popular in Argentina. Over there they are a sandwich of two sweet crackers with dulce de leche between them, and they are covered with chocolate.

Thanks for clarifying.

Rusty,

CHILEAN ALFAJORES
1/4 c. plus 3 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. plus 3 tbsp. sugar
1 egg, beaten
3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. flour
1 can condensed milk

Cream together butter and sugar; add egg and flour and mix well. Drop by scant teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Pat with a floured finger into very thin little circles (quarter to half dollar size). Bake at 325 degrees for 10-12 minutes, until just starting to brown around edges.
Sandwich two cookies together with cooked condensed milk. To cook condensed milk, place entire, unopened can in a large saucepan, cover with water. Bring to boil and simmer about 2 hours. This turns it into caramel.

OK, here alfajores are not any kind of sandwich, they are a christmas cake made with almond. (see pic)

Not sure, but words starting with al- are mostly coming into Spanish from Arabic, so may be more culturally bound to the south of Spain (Andalusia)

They're yummy...but so fattening

Haha. You should go to Finland once. I've been there quite some times, and they eat more cake a day, than we do through the whole Christmas here in Denmark.

Agree with Planet hopper. Here, in Spain, alfajores are a xmas dessert.
saludos
