Bueno, doctores tiene la Iglesia, (los nativos) pero yo diría:

... who was regarded as a possible heir to the crown/throne.

(A ver que nos dicen Perikles, Pjt33, Sosia, Poli...) (Que donde hay capitán, no manda marinero... y mucho menos si es marinero de agua dulce y manchego... para más inri...)

Is almost exactly what I would suggest. I'd go for the more literal "considered" instead of "regarded", and favour "heir to the throne" over "heir to the crown", but I think both are matters of style rather than correctness.

Yes, I thought it was subjunctive because of that "were".

So, 'considered' instead o 'regarded'? I'm not translating, but preparing notes and I translate from my thoughts.

Who was considered that can be the landowner of the throne.

Who was considered be owner of the throne.

They are quite different between two possible translations.

In my humble opinion, both of your options seem incorrect.
"Landowner" is "hacendado" "terrateniente" not "heir".

The second one "owner of the throne" would be something like "propietario del trono" which doesn't ring right either...

You have valid options before in this thread...
