This reminds me of the saying that goes like this:
Remember, you are unique. Just like everyone else. :whistling:

Is that how it would render?

Sí.
o

OH! I figured demás would have to be in there somewhere, but I couldn't figure out how. Makes lots of sense! :)

But you said it right. And that's what it counts! :D

So, tell me - what does the "tanto" signify here?

I said it "right"? Or I said something that is grammatically correct and doesn't necessarily sound awkward? :)
By the way ... it's interesting that you think that "como todos los demas" would sound redundant ... because (as I'm sure you know), in English we would use the phrase "all the rest" frequently. :D

I'm not Hernán but this are some views on your questions:
"tanto como todos los demás" = "(just) as much as everyone else/as all the rest"
In this case, "todos los demás" might sound a little redundant because "todos" is already a general idea... "los demás" obviously wouldn't include yourself anyway among "todos". I wouldn't consider the expresion redundant in every case, but for this I agree with Hernán.
:)
Oh, and your sentence was well written too. ;)

Thanks, Malila - I always (always!) appreciate your input on any question. I'm sure Hernán will eventually have something to say...... :)

I guess it would have to be "just" :)

It is redundant, I guess in some cases, but usage mandates. :-)

"Como todos los demás" is correct. I can say:

I can say:
There is only one prize. I won it, and the rest lost.
I only want this book. All the rest are in the way.
Enjoy this sunset and forget everything else.
I wanted to make sure I understand each of the phrases that you used here. :) Please let me know if I am correct....

I'd like to help you, but I'm not sure about "the rest". The 3rd I think that is correct, but I don't know if in the other two I'd use "the others". Maybe another one could help

@Lou Ann: I think your guesses are all correct. Only a question on the second one:
Sólo quiero este libro, todos los demás me sobran. I only want this book. All the rest are in the way.
My English is failing me... I understand "to be in the way" as being bothersome... maybe to be on their way to the waste bin... (?)
Here "me sobran" is they're too many if you only need one.
I only want this book; I can get rid of all the others.

In the way is another way of saying in my way which means they are
of no use( literally they block my way)

Well, I was being silly. But it could be a face with arms that go up in the "raise the roof" kind of way.... :)
