To surround yourself with people of a lower class the term is slumming.
If you want to insult someone by saying no soporto la gente de tu clase in English you can say I wont go slumming with people the likes of you.

On the other hand, if you wish to insult the wealthy, I don't believe there
is an equivalent term for the verb to slum for surrounding youself the monied folks. But I suppose you can say, I can't stand the filthy rich and will not associate myself with them.

"rubbing elbows" is a term for a person of any class when associating
with the wealthy. like when they're all standing around clustered up
at a cocktail party.

hermit

I heard that expression once on Tv, Somebody liked rubbing elbows with the rich and famous = codearse con los ricos.

poli September 24, 2009 02:49 PM

Another way of saying rubbing elbows is hobnob.

ROBINDESBOIS September 26, 2009 04:51 AM

I like hobnobbing the rich and famous ???

No se puede usar "category" en inglés para referirse a clase social, como se puede en español.
