"Del" is only used when you're talking about an object. There is no article in front of a person.

@VivaEspana: Please NEVER "muchos gracias". It's "muchas gracias".

"Era el [aniversario del] natalicio de Lincoln"

By 1908 Lincoln had been dead two scores and three years, so he hardly could be "cumpliendo años". Some anglicized versions of Spanish might use sometimes "cumpleaños" because they mix English sense and English meaning, and you even may find that use in instances of degraded use of language all over Internet, but that's not neither the main nor the educated stream.

4 de agosto de 2011: cumpleaños de Obama (50)
22 de febrero de 2011: natalicio de Washington (279)

[dd de mm de -AAAA: cumpleaños de Matusalén (279)]

Accent marks and other symbols are not gratuitous:

tenía treinta y dos años = he was thirty-two years old
tenía treinta y dos anos = he had thirty-two anuses
tenia treinta y dos anos = tapeworm thirty-two anuses

To avoid such scatological twists and many other misunderstandings, you have a drop-down menu within the editor that you can use easily.

"Apology" and "apología" are false friends. An "apología" (with an accent!) in Spanish is a speech or a piece of writing praising something or someone.

"Disculpa" is the right word.
