Self introduction in Spanish?
Hola! I am a student from Hong Kong. I've just started to learn Spanish recently. I have written a short paragraph about myself. Could someone tell me if there's anything wrong with it? Thanks! =]
Hola! Me llamo Amanda. Yo soy alto y delgado. Soy joven y tengo veinte años. Tengo el pelo largo y rizado. Tengo los ojos negors. Soy amable y optimista, pero un poco tranquilo y aburrido. Mi color favorito es el blanco. Me gusta escuchar música. Me gustan leer libros y cantar canciónes. Me gustan mucho los animales, por ejemplo perro, gato y pájaro. Me encanta aprender el español. No me gustan los deportes. No me gusta ver la televisión. No me gustan los ordenadores y las motos. Last edited by Brightsky; April 02, 2013 at 11:15 AM. |

I'm fairly new to Spanish as well, but I'll give it a shot! Besides the corrections noted above, I believe you should have said "me gusta leer libros y cantar canciónes." I know that you're saying you like 2 different things, but since they both start with an infinitive I believe you'd use "gusta."
If I'm wrong, someone will post shortly and point that out, so don't worry! By the way, welcome! You'll love the forum. It's a great tool for Spanish learning. |

Thanks for all of your comments!! =] I am still a little confused about the use of "gusta" though. I know "gusta" is for singular and "gustan" is for plural. But if I mention two things in the same sentence, should I use "gusta" or "gustan"?

It's best to explain by example in this case.
Me gusta leer. Me gustan los libros. Me gusta bailar y festejar. Me gustan los bailes y fiestas. Ask more if this still confuses you.

I didn't see the other posts before I corrected this sentence. When the subject of gustar is an infinitive you use the singular form of the verb, even though two or more subjects might be listed.

When mentioning two singular objects (or infinitives) in one sentence, you use "gusta." When mentioning plural objects, you use "gustan." Put it this way, two singular objects (or infinitives) don't make a plural. See Poli's examples.

Bueno, "ojos negros" son ojos negros... no marrones...
Como cantan los Chichos...
