Walking on
-It was an odd road to be walking, this of painting.
Based on the above, can we say? -We were walking this road. (not walking on) -This trip (or whatever word related to journey) was worth going. Do you think the second is wrong and on must be added after going?

'going on'
 'walking this road' is OK, but most would add a preposition: 'walking on/down/up/along this road'

I mean that 'going' must be paired with 'on' in your sentence. Otherwise, you would not be expressing the entire verbal phrase. We don't 'go a trip'; we 'go on a trip'.
