Synonyms in Spanish

I’m looking for another way to express the sentence below in Spanish, using different words:
‘abordar este problema’

My attempt:
‘discutir este tema’

The sentence has been taken from the paragraph below:
«Hace cuatro años comencé a participar en el proyecto Niños en Movimiento, una iniciativa para tratar la obesidad infantil que se inició en Vall de Hebrón», explica la doctora Reina Lladó, pediatra y especialista en Nutrición Pediátrica, «A partir de aquí maduré la idea de cómo se podría abordar este problema y, junto a la nutricionista Leticia Lozano y el apoyo de un psicólogo, pusimos en marcha la Unidad de Nutrición Balear Maternoinfantil (NUBIM) ».

Is my attempt correct? Is there another way this sentence can be re-written in Spanish?

"Discutir el tema" is not a correct substitute for "abordar el problema".

"Abordar" in "abordar el problema" means to choose an angle and address or tackle (the problem). "Cómo abordar el problema" then means that angle is ignored, or the speaker doesn't know which of many available approaches to choose.

A so-so replacement would be "encarar el problema/asunto" (so-so, because using "encarar" supposes you are faced with a problem you can't avoid so you are forced to tackle it one way or another, and it doesn't relate with methodologies as "abordar" does)

You can use enfrentar instead of abordar. I think enfrentar is more commonly used. There are many verbs you can use. I think afrontar can be used too, but as a non-native speaker, I am not sure it is natural.

afrontar and enfrentar are synonyms, but they don't mean abordar as in "abordar el problema desde la perspectiva correcta" but they do mean abordar as in the dated "abordar el desafío" (they may be mistaken the DRAE's example "abordar la prueba con valor" -to face the trial with courage- with "cómo abordar la prueba" -what strategy use in the test-)
