Carnaval confusion

Can anyone explain, with reference to Carnaval in Tenerife, the difference between

Anuncio cabalgata and Coso apoteosis

Tenerifians seem determined to be celebrating something all through the year. Ten milliseconds after the end of Christmas, CARNAVAL starts and continues until the summer holidays (June, July, August and September) ten milliseconds after which Christmas starts again. At present, all three Tenerife TV channels show constant carnaval stuff, and there is considerable confusion about what is going on, because nobody can explain.

What are the above? Are they the same?

I think the Coso Apoteosis marks the end of the Carnival; the last big parade of the carnival season held on Martes de Carnaval.

Thanks, but what is confusing is that Anuncio cabalgata is also advertised as that (well I think so). It doesn't really matter at the moment, everything has been cancelled because they are predicting torrential rain.

I think this is the last parade of the Carnival days. I'll ask to a friend of mine who is from the Canary Islands (may I say that he's "Canarian" ?).

I've looked it up in wordreference and I couldn't see Canarian, but 'one of/from the Canary Islands'.

I was just thinking that maybe the two expressions are the same thing. The Coso Apoteosis is a "cabalgata" only it's a cabalgata with a specific name.

I've just had a suggestion locally that the Anuncio cabalgata is a different procession (before the final one) which consists of floats entered by sponsors of the carnival. This happens one day earlier, apparantly.

I found the Calendar 2010 of the carnival and this:

Los desfiles o cabalgatas están compuestos por distintos tipos de agrupaciones: coros, comparsas (grupo de personas desfilando bajo un mismo tema), murgas (orquestas a pie, que cantan canciones picantes y jocosas sobre un tema o alguien), carrozas (transportan a las distintias candidatas con sus aparatosos trajes), rondallas (orquestas a pie que tocan musica clásica). A lo largo de los Carnavales se llevan a cabo concursos de cada uno de estos tipos de agrupaciones y como no, se elige a la reina de los carnavales.

El punto algido de la fiesta es El Coso, que es el desfile más importante y más largo, en el cual todos dan el máximo de sus posibilidades.¡ Es espectacular!.

So, as I understand, the Cabalgata Anunciadora is the first parade of the "parade days", and the Coso Apoteosis is the last one. And there are many activities the days before and after both of them.

I am sure that cabalgata has everything to do with horses, at least
it did in the old days. It may be that horses have been replaced with
cars and trucks.

"Anuncio cabalgata" sounds to me like a general "Notice of parade" rather than the name of an event.

It seems more to carnival.

It could be interpreted as a mega party.

Lo del Coso Apoteosis es el nombre que le han puesto "nuestros vecinos de enfrente" *Chichas, (con *cariño), es una cabalgata donde desfilan murgas, afilarmónicas (son murgas que han ganado cinco veces el concurso de murgas), comparsas, grupos de batucadas, asociaciones líricas, etc... esto es lo que es el coso, son más ordenados (todo lleva una organización), mientras que aquí en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria es una cabalgata (...).

No me preguntes qué es una batucada.

Y no sabía que os llamaran "chichas".

Las "batucadas" son grupos que tocan música brasileña, parecida a la samba con percusiones de varios tipos. Muy rítmica.
