¿Qual es el significado de "lanzarse"?
¿To throw oneself into [something]?

Pero, me parece que se lo suele usar en un sentido menos "agresivo". Mas como "to try hard at", "apply oneself"...
Por ejemplo "me falta lanzarme" traduzca literalmente a "I lack throwing myself into [something]"

Ah bueno, definición 3. lanzarse a algo - to undertake something, embark upon something. Entonces: me falta lanzarme al francés=+- I haven't undertaken a study of French. Quizás: I haven't started to seriously study French.

I would understand it more like ¨I really need to concentrate on French¨.

Probablemente. Faltar y faltarse tienen muchos significados alrededor de la idea de 'lack' como 'need', 'desire','wait', 'miss' y otros que no tienen traducción directa e.g. "pase usted primero - ¡no faltaba más!"

Para mi muchas veces es difícil de saber qual es el significado correcto.

I'd say yes, if "concentrate" means to commit yourself to start studying seriously.
