Thanks both of you. Sorry to say I'm still confused as to why puede que and not pueden que since resultados is plural. Is puede que an unchangeable set phrase for "may" that works with either singular or plural nouns? That would make it like the English "may," covering both, and I'm still hung up on the Spanish subject-verb (not to mention subject-adjective) agreement.

The piece you might be missing is that there are actually two clauses. 'It may be that' is the first clause. 'It' is the subject and it is singular. "The results vary" is the second clause. It is cast in the subjunctive because of the other clause.
