Nos vamos sin él? In this context, both "iremos" and "vamos" are good.
No: the time frame is the morning. Events that happened in the morning are described using imperfect or preterite. Events that happened before that time are described using the pluperfect. - So whenever I want to describe something that happened before I ALWAYS use the plusperfect?
When you talk about right now, if you mention a past event you use the preterite, the imperfect, or the present perfect. If you mention an even earlier event in relation to that past event, then you use the pluperfect (pluscuamperfecto, "more than perfect").
For example: 1. Hoy salgo sin el paraguas porque no llueve. - correct?
Esta mañana llovió mucho, or llovía mucho- is this good?
Yes, and yes.
And - Hoy salgo sin el paraguas porque no llueve pero ayer tuve que llevarlo porque había llovido llovía. ?
Why would you have needed to take an umbrella yesterday if it had finished raining before you left? If was raining when you left, then you want to use the imperfect.
What about if I want to say something about yesterday without mentioning today? - Ayer llovió por la noche. Would that be correct?
Also correct.

We use the preterite, the imperfect, or the present perfect to talk about some past event A. After we mention past event A, if we want to mention an even earlier event B, then we use the pluperfect.
