¿Sé que ambas son correctas gramaticalmente pero cómo un nativo diría lo?

Creo que una falla con casi todos los sitios de español en la web es que nunca te dicen cómo un nativo realmente decir algo.

Hay muchas maneras de decir algo, pero que realmente se utiliza.

Either "Puedo ayudarle" or "Le puedo ayudar" is valid, but you'll hear native speakers using the first form I wrote much more often than the second.

(You cannot insert the indirect object pronoun between the auxiliary verb and the main verb, by the way.)

On one hand, nativo is an aborigin of the land, not a speaker of any language. Using it as "native speaker" is just Forumese; a jargon used in Internet forums and in some schools where Spanish is taught to English natives. Many get used to that jargon and they mistake it as proper Spanish, even native Spanish speakers.

On the other hand, "poder + infinitive" is a verbal periphrasis, as it is "haber + participle" or "to be + going to + infinitive" in English. You can add the pronoun at the end or the beginning, but not in the middle:

le puedo ayudar
puedo ayudarle
puedo le ayudar (or , but with the clock seven centuries behind )

Siempre está bien recordar que hay dos tipos de leísmos:

Leísmo de cortesía: Cuando se emplea "le" con usted, inferentemente del género. Extendido por todo el ámbito hispánico a excepción del Cono Sur.

Leísmo de tercera persona: Leísmo propio de Castilla que se ha dispersado por toda la península ibérica a causa de la "centralidad" de los medios comunicativos: presa, traducciones, doblajes, etc. Supone una completa trastonación del sistema latino de enclíticos debido a la pérdida de distinción formal entre verbos transitivos e intransitivos. Un comentario importante: la RAE, incogruentemente consigo misma, admite el leísmo masculino de tercera persona singular, no en plural.


Yo evito ambos leísmos. El primero puede justificarse siguiendo el paradigma de la segunda persona; sin embargo, el segundo cae de lleno en un atentado de la gramática autobendecido por los miembros leístas de la RAE. De hecho, ya en el siglo XVIII intentaron imponerlo en el resto de España. Si el leísmo no hubiera surgido en Castilla sino, por ejemplo, en un pueblo perdido de los Andes, no estaría aceptado ni camparía a sus anchas por la corte semiculta de España.

Me tomó mucho tiempo para traducir lo que escribio, pero valió la pena. Leísmo, loísmo, laísmo no se utilizan en América Latina, según http://www.alwaysspanish.com/2013/04...mo-loismo.html, así que no pasará demasiado tiempo en ellos pero es muy interesante.

@Bob: "Leísmo", and "la/loísmo" do happen in Latin America, but this case is not exactly an example of "leísmo", because, according to the Academia, this is some sort of archaic form that is still used in many regions. The use of IO and DO pronouns is not uniform, so in countries like Mexico you will hear "ayudarla/ayudarlo" just as often as you'll find "ayudarle".
