Bacca

Would you say that "bacca" is "tobacco"? Is it better to say that "bacca" means "berry"?

Thanks.

Bacca is not at all a common word. I have a good vocabulary and needed to consult a dictionary for its definition. It means a round fruit like an olive.

No, it is not even in the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, and I've never heard of it. There is an English slang word for tobacco: 'baccy which is possibly what Irma is thinking of.

I'm rather concerned that Irmamar is learning some very obscure English words which nobody understands these days. Is this something to do with D.H. Lawrence I wonder?

In the Southern states, U.S., " 'bacca" is tobacco.

Way of life for many farmers is "growin' 'bacca".
