Herir - Lesionar

Sólo encontré el verbo lesionar por primera vez.

Es un sinónimo de herir o dañar, verdad? Es menos común o hay diferencias de menor importancia?

He visto herir y dañar mucho pero nunca lesionar.

lesionar ---> to cause a lesion
herir ---> to cause a wound

El policia está herido. Está sangrando (bleeding)
El jugador está lesionado. Está cojeando (limping).
El accidentado sufrió una lesión cerebral (brain damage)

Sí, son diferentes. "Lesionar" se refiere daño óseo o muscular. "Herir" significa atravesar el tejido cutáneo y verter sangre.

PD: Mejor use "acabo de encontrar". La estructura "just + past simple" puede traducir, muy puntualmente, como "justo + pretérito". No obstante, no resulta demasiado habitual en español. Ese "sólo encontré" implicaría "I found only...".
