Activante de fermentos

Alguien me puede decir lo que significa "activante de fermentos" en el siguiente contexto.
"El calcio actua como catalizador, o activante de fermentos como en la coagulacion de la sangre y de la leche."
Mi interpretacion: Calcium acts as a catalyst or activating enzymes such as coagulation of the blood and milk.

Lo que me confunde mas es la palabra fermento.

Rusty has a spectacular aura aboutRusty has a spectacular aura about
fermento = enzyme
activante de fermentos = activating enzyme

My take:
Calcium acts as a catalyst, or activating enzyme, as in blood and milk coagulation.

Wouldn't be "ferment activator"?

I see what you mean, as in "activator of enzymes"?

I think, like Rusty says, "enzyme" would be more common in English than "ferment" (?)

"Enzyme activator" maybe the other option, but on a google search "activating enzyme" gets more usages.

One thing is that "calcium" is not an "enzyme" but "activates the enzymes".

So another options could be,
Calcium acts as a catalyst, or activating enzyme, as in blood and milk coagulation.
Calcium acts as a catalyst, or enzyme activator, as in blood and milk coagulation.

(I am talking purely from the language point of view, being a complete neophyte on all the field of Organic Biochemistry...)

Ok, now I got it.

What happens is that activating enzyme = fermenter.
