Has visto al / Has visto el .. ?

Hello,

What is the correct form of saying : Have you seen the new cat of Paco?

Is it : ¿Has visto el nuevo gato de Paco?
or : ¿Has visto al nuevo gato de Paco?

And : Have you seen this cat?
¿Has visto este gato?

Where the direct object may also be confused with the subject the preposition 'a' precedes the direct object. No confusion could possibly arise in your sentences because the subject is clearly conveyed by the verb (second person) and the cat is obviously the direct object.
So, no preposition is required, and your first rendition is correct.

Now, to confuse matters, if you're granting the cat human status, the personal 'a' becomes necessary and your second rendition is correct.
