Here are a few examples:
No veo lo que ves. = I don't see what you're seeing. Dime lo que haces. = Tell me what you're doing. Mi cuaderno es más grueso que el tuyo. = My notebook is thicker than yours. Mejor es dar que recibir. = It's better to give than to receive. (Giving is better than receiving.) Sé que pronto el sol va a ponerse. = I know (that) the sun will set soon. *Notice that 'that' is not needed in English. No me digas que ella no te quiere. = Don't tell me (that) she doesn't love you. Quiero que te vayas. = I want you to leave. *Verbs of volition in English - notice no subjunctive or 'that' Es importante que sepas. = It's important for you to know. *No subjunctive = It's important (that) you know. *Subjunctive form (much less common) Toma nota que no habrá clase mañana. = Take note that there won't be class tomorrow. ¡Qué divertido! = How fun! ¿Qué es eso? = What is that? Eso no es rojo. = That isn't red. Dame ese lapiz. = Give me that pencil. Aquí hay una carta chica y otra más grande. En ésa, el autor no puso su dirección. En aquélla, sí. = Here is a small letter and a larger one. In the latter, the author didn't write his address. In the former, he did. Last edited by Rusty; December 11, 2008 at 12:24 AM. |
