(I was thinking "after the death of her husband"....) The sentence about students who don't have their homework: how would I say that I can look around a classroom and can recognize by the look on the students' faces who does and does not have their homework? ![]()

I can see in your faces who did the homework and who didn't. It can be said in several other ways in both languages. |

Tiempo y paciencia.

I don't know much about that either... "minimal pairs" is my latest discovery, so I'm showing off like a child.
![]() As for your students, we might rather choose other kinds of constructions, but "de" adverbial expressions can be useful in many situations. ![]()

Hello I am not that advance so I can't read most of what was said in here.
Please let me know if I said that correctly. I'm still in the beginners stage of my Spanish. |

Your question was correctly formulated.
![]() ![]() You can say "es de mañana", "es de tarde", "es de noche". - Ya es medio día. (It's already midday.) - A la media noche me voy. (I'm leaving at midnight.) - Ya es de noche. (The night has come.) -> It means it's dark and it's night already. - Me voy de mañana. (I'm leaving during the morning) -> It means I'm leaving any time during the morning. - ¿Es de tarde en tu país? (Is it afternoon in your country?) -> Asking whether it is any time in the afternoon in your country, considering we have different clock times.

Because "era tarde" means "it was late", while "era de tarde" means "it was the afternoon". The same with mañana, and noche up to a point. There's no such a problem with mediodía.
