We moved to California when I was 8.

Nos mudamos a C......
Nos traladamos a C....

Pienso que ambos son OK pero cual es mas comun?

Ambos, dependiendo de la persona que habla.

En algunas regiones "mudarse" es la forma "educada" y "trasladarse"/"cambiarse" se usa más en el lenguaje común.
