Creer & subjunctive with interrogatives?

I have read that when asking affirmative questions using "creer", the subjunctive may or may not be used depending on the region.



So, for example, one might say:


¿Crees que tu familia te visite / te vaya a visitar?

OR

¿Crees que tu familia te visitará / te va a visitar?



I also read that use of the subjunctive in this case is most common in Mexico.


However, Rosetta Stone - through which I'm learning Latin American Spanish, provides examples without the subjunctive. Granted, I know that LA is more than just Mexico, but I'm still feeling like I'm getting mixed answers.



In trying to learn Mexican Spanish, would I be better off using or not using the subjunctive in these instances?

You're getting mixed answers because some people (and perhaps regions of people) incorrectly use or don't use the subjunctive when called for. At times it is mistakenly used when it's not called for, too.
Native speakers make mistakes when speaking, just like we butcher English.

Prescriptive grammar states that the subjunctive isn't used when you believe something. It is used, however, when you don't believe something to be true.
Talking about a future event calls for the subjunctive.

At first, both questions seem to be asking about a future event, but in reality, they're asking about another's belief. We tend to frame questions based on our belief or point of view, even though we're fishing for someone else's thoughts.
The reason to use the subjunctive may get displaced by the speaker's thinking that there isn't a contrary belief.

All that said, I'd like to hear from a Mexican that can speak for her pueblo.
