Tras ganar cinco títulos mundiales consecutivos entre 2000 y 2004, El Kaiser se cuestionó si valía la pena seguir en 2005 y decidió colgar el mono en 2006, cuando comprobó que Fernando Alonso le había birlado dos títulos consecutivos. Ahora, con 41 años, su regreso tras tres años ausente no está resultando todo lo satisfactorio que preveía. Básicamente, porque sus posiciones en la primera calificación (séptimo) y en la primera carrera (sexto) no fueron óptimas y porque, además, las dos veces estuvo por detrás de su compañero, Nico Rosberg.
