How about simply "It sounds like..." :) It's sounds more natural that way than "It sounds familiar."

I agree that (extreme) physical malformations can be grotesque. At least emotionally, although I try to overcome that gut feeling and see them as variations of normal.

As far as "scoot" goes, maybe I will just stil with moverse (sentado).

that "red hot" captures the meaning. However, I don't remember ever actually using red hot in a sentence unless I was building a campfire...:D
