Lightbulb Resistir

How do we say resistir in the following contexts:

My mother is learning Russian, pero se le resiste el ruso. ( meaning she doesn´t make any progress)
I need to go to the restroom, stop the car now,
Hold on one minute, resiste un poco ( aguanta).

Russian is proving to be difficult for her.
