Enfermo
“La historia apareció en un periódico británico y, aunque no tan hollywoodiense como esa fantasía de músico cultísimo 'enfermo' por un inexplicable trauma, tenía lo suyo. El misterioso «hombre del piano» resultó ser un alemán que se quedó sin trabajo en París y tomó un tren a Gran Bretaña y allí la Policía lo encontró atónito y mudo al borde de una ruta.”
Does 'enfermo' make sense here? Could it be replaced by 'azotado'? Thanks in advance.

Enfermo is absolutely correct. A trauma cannot whip you in Spanish. It´s true that it could be replaced by afectado , tocado, trastornado etc... but never by azotado. Though in Literature you knever know what to expect.
