El contexto:
I worked in a youth hostel. I had to serve breakfast and clear the tables. Sometimes I also had to answer the phone and ‘take messages’. Trabajé en un albergue juvenil. Tenía que servir el desayuno y quitar las mesas. A veces también tenía que contestar el teléfono y’ tomar mensajes’.

Trabajé en un albergue juvenil. Tenía que servir el desayuno y limpiar las mesas. A veces también tenía que contestar/responde al teléfono y 'anotar mensajes' (escribirlos en un cuarderno) o 'hacer recados' (realizarlos personalmente).
